Pouring Beer During a Pandemic

Pouring Beer During a Pandemic

April 06, 2021

I never thought I would see the day where the word "pandemic" was written into the title of a blog on this website but so it is. COVID-19 is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future, but that doesn't mean we can't continue to pour our brews, we just need to be smart about it.

When COVID first began to make headlines, breweries across the nation were hit hard. Many restaurants, stadiums, concert halls and bars were forced to do the unthinkable, pour their tasty brews down the drain. While large public venues continued to struggle, many bars and restaurants got clever and offered to fill growlers on a to-go basis. Soon after, some took to serving customers outdoors while taking precautions after officials loosened things up a little in order to help stimulate the economy. It was a new way of doing business for us all and while following strict guidelines was challenging, it was the only thing they could to do keep from going under.

While most restaurants and bars continued to prepare and serve from their indoor facilities, many took to pouring drinks outdoors for the convenience of their employees and patrons using traditional direct to keg taps and trash cans. While a great quick fix, the issue was having to maintain constant temperatures with ice refills all day long, serving foamy brew and hiding unsightly trash cans. Temporarily, this worked but for those who decided to continue offering this type of service, better solutions were imperative. The good news is that there are some solutions out there, specifically fully portable keg dispensing products from companies such as Chilart.

Chilart offers two distinct products including the Woodstock, a fully contained and portable solution along with a smaller "jockey box" style Cooltainer, designed for table top applications. Chilart prides itself on craftsmanship and durability. Both products are manufactured using the same materials and technology used on high end coolers such as Yeti and RTIC. This allows for establishments to focus on serving rather than dealing with melting ice. But it is more than materials and manufacturing processes, each unit offers a variety of features to ensure cold perfect pours...

Keeping it Cool

The cooling power of the systems are provided by stainless steel coils with over 90 feet on the Cooltainer and 131 feet on the Woodstock. The Cooltainer will pour 60 pints per hour while the Woodstock a whopping 80 pints per hour at 39F and both units can hold ice for up to 3 days.

Portable

The Woodstock is fully contained meaning the keg can be stored inside the unit and comes even comes with a set of integrated wheels for optimal portability. The Cooltainer can easily be moved around as well and is perfect for situations where you need multiple units stacked side by side or even on top of each other on a table top or counter.

Easy to Maintain

When things get busy, time is limited which is why both unites are designed with easy access features making it easy to check gas pressure, add ice, swap kegs and keep clean.

Make Them Your Own

The front face of both units can be customized with your branding by sliding your prints into built in slots. Ideal to identify the brew you are pouring or your business.

Now back to that pesky pandemic.

Here are a few tips to ensure the safety and enjoyment of your guests and employees as well:

  • Serve outdoors if possible and leave some space between tables
  • Create markers in front of your dispenser at least 6ft apart to help guests know where to stand
  • Store cups safely and only use once (store in Woodstock built-in cup dispensers)
  • Wear masks and gloves while dispensing to your guests
  • Display safety policies & branding on integrated insert panels
  • Keep your brew fresh and cold all day long
  • Place a bottle of hand sanitizer on top of the dispensing unit for customer to use as they wish
  • Be sure to follow city, county and state laws

Regardless of how you operate your business, whether you decide to pour inside or out, stay safe out there, keep on pouring and a toast to those who are making the best of situation.
